MESSAGE FROM THE CREDITS

THE TRIP 31 – V E L O C I T Y
A world surrounded by water.
After approaching this civilization from a distance,
we explore the inner and outer realms and
discover both the old, the new, and the futuristic.
The water is ever present and in constant motion
which is mirrored by our path and workout. The
continuous flow of the ride is occasionally broken
by brief moments of recovery that allow riders an
opportunity to re-set and re-engage.
Upon entering the core of this realm, we
encounter one of the most challenging and
athletically intense tracks we have ever designed
– of course it takes commitment from riders to
create this experience and ultimately everyone
can make their own choice on any given day –
some days are just better than others!
The Athletic & Animated focus we introduced in
THE TRIP 30 continues here, and it’s great to see
how Khiran continues this in her own authentic
way. The open & inclusive way of allowing each
rider to move in a way that works for them
continues to be something we actively promote,
and rider feedback clearly tells us it’s extremely
empowering.
We know we say there are lots of details, but
the truth is, there are – so once again have fun
exploring V E L O C I T Y and as always, stay safe
and be kind to each other!

LES MILLS TONE 19
The Music! The Moves! The Team! We have
certainly delivered in TONE 19. We have all your
favorite presenters reunited for one energetic
release filled with coaching nuggets.
The team combines stability and multi-directional
movements throughout the release and you’ll
experience this right from track 1.
The first 3 tracks highlight athleticism using
simple exercise combinations that you can dial
up or down in intensity giving your class a great
workout feel.
Our Peak 2 Cardio track features speed as a
focus, so provide your class with all the options to
make them feel successful.
The Peak 3 Cardio track pays tribute to what
athleticism is in TONE. We contrast posterior
chain focused movement patterns with high
energy Burpees that have 3 levels to build up
to. As showcased in TONE 17, we have slowed
down the Burpee. Providing an alternative
standing track is one of the key outcomes in all
our TONE classes along with athleticism and
longevity. The ability to get on and off the floor
confidently, especially as we age, holds high value
in our fitness economy and we’ve made sure our
exercises strengthen and focus all the muscles
that help us achieve this!
The fun and playful vibes continue in tracks 6, 7
and 8 – your class will love these simple rhythmic
exercise patterns. The Resisted Cardio, Core and
Balance tracks do not disappoint.
Then the band returns in the Lower Body Strength
track! Progressive and single sided movements
to create a powerhouse of strength through the
lower body is the name of the game here! (Yes,
we doubled the entire song, it’s like a tradition for
TONE lower body tracks, right?!)
We brought back the Front Raise Pushup combo
in our Upper Body Strength track, a cool sound
with integrated upper body training makes this
track absolute fire!
One of our favorite Functional Core tracks to date
– it’s integrated, functional and oh so cool, you’ll
have fun teaching this one.
We finish off this release with everyone’s favorite –
clamshells! Yes, we know this exercise is incredible
for strengthening the hips, glutes, and pelvis but
how good is this exercise with a band! It’s like the
cherry on top of our TONE class!
Enjoy!
Khiran and Diana xx

GLOSSARY
KEY RPM RIDING POSITIONS
Throughout the ride, we use different riding
positions. These impose slightly different
demands on the body and the working muscles.
Changing positions brings maximum benefits,
avoids over-stressing the body and brings variety
to the ride, which is an important factor in indoor
cycling.
Some positions are used at specific Paces or
Resistances as they are designed for Speed,
Climbing and Power recovery. Others are used
with all Paces and Resistance. Your goal is to ride
both effectively and efficiently in each position
and have your participants do the same.
BIKE SETUP
Before you begin the class use the ‘on-the-bike
quick check’ to make sure you have a slight bend
in your knee at the bottom of your pedal stroke.
SEAT HEIGHT
Bring your feet to 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock. Take
out your bottom foot and place your heel over the
pedal. With a straight leg and hips level, your heel
should just touch the pedal – a good seat height
for great force production. If your heel easily
touches the pedal and the knee is bent, then
the seat is too low. If you cannot reach the pedal
without losing your hip alignment, then your seat
is too high. Once you place your foot back in the
pedal/cage, check you have a slight bend in your
knee – the optimal angle is 25 degrees.
SEAT FORE AND AFT
With the pedals at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock,
position the saddle so the front knee is in line with
the pedal axle or the top toe strap of the front
pedal. If the knee is back of the pedal axle, the
seat needs to be moved forward. If the knee is
forward of the pedal axle, the seat needs to be
moved back.
HANDLEBAR HEIGHT
The handlebar height should be slightly lower or
level with the saddle. Beginners, or people with
lower back problems, should have the handlebars
slightly higher than the saddle.
HANDLEBAR FORWARD AND BACK
In Racing, you should have a 90-degree angle
between your upper arm and your torso. If you
feel like you need to slide forward in the saddle
to create the 90-degree angle, move your
handlebars a little closer

RELEASE FEEDBACK

CLASS SET-UP
Moderate to heavy barbell and two free weight
plates of the same size. Anyone new to LES MILLS
GRIT should use light weights.
Aim to be super inclusive and inviting. Welcome
anyone new to the class and explain the workout
and expectations. Always tell members at the
start of the class that this workout is for them and
they can dial up or down whatever they need
to. The bar can be switched out for the plate or
body weight at any time. A great mindset to get
into at the start of each workout is to remember
to teach to the whole team so everyone can feel
successful.
L–R: Ben Main, Erin Maw and Levi Farrell
TEACHING THIS
RELEASE
How long should I teach the new release for?
Teach the entire new release for a minimum of
two weeks and a maximum of four weeks and
then start to integrate other tracks. Then you will
not only ensure variety in exercise sequencing
and music but participants will also experience
the magic, excitement and training effect of the
new launch tracks.

you will see pop up in various tracks, and it offers
a true theme in this release. This is the perfect
time to welcome your participants into the space
and encourage them to connect with their bodies
in a way that is authentic to them.

The fire on this latest release is out of control.
Honestly, I really went ham on this one.
Track 1 is this Latin Pop perfection number to get
your ‘chesticles’ working.
Track 2 HYPE is the HYPIEST with three totally
different sounds in one stunner of a naughty
rabbit style.
To The Max Dam Time goes hard! Go Mode, then
Que Le De sets up simple combos with sultry
feels. How We Ride is full of happy, bouncy vibes
that will have you humming this track over and
over as you make your morning coffee. Then,
Venture, goes a lot harder but not as hard as To
The Max. Honestly, this track goes soooooo hard!
You get to bump your butt and put it all together
and OMG I love this track!
Then I made an electro bouncy remix of About
Damn Time for you… do with it what you will.
Recovery is to calm your face down and to find
some beautiful grooves. Before Dah Duh Duhn…
we get back into it with Maximum Derek!
Start it off right with what I like to call, the Carnival
section. Some super quirky new moves for you to
test out – super slow wind of the hips and then
a massive Soca drops on Carnival (everybody’s
hands go up)!
I’ve got an incredible Toxic remix in this class, and
I thought ‘Gandalf, how could we possibly make
this better?’ Oh yeah, by putting ALL OF THE
TOXIC IN THERE TOO! Twist your palms, touch
your face, the best pop track of this era?
Oh yeah, then the rap anthem to end all rap
anthems. Huge horns, sick verses. I love Forever.
Then finish this MAXIMUM DEREK release off in
true BODYJAM style. Heavy, euphoric and epic –
open more, jump higher, there is nothing like it.
Last name Derek, first name Maximum.
Much love,
G.
B

6 Keys to unlocking the Mind-Body
Experience:
Stay in a Balance Frame of Mind
This means coming to class with a positive,
respectful attitude. Acknowledge that your
participants are on individual journeys and your
class will gain a more authentic mind-body feel.
Don’t Pose
That super calm, faux-spiritual voice comes across
as inauthentic and ill-fitting. Your class is an adult
space so respect your participants enough to
teach in your own voice, just keep it calm.
Keep Cues Simple
Although Yoga poses are often technically
complex, your class will not hear you if you ‘talk
their ears off’ with too much cueing. Use the
three-part process to keep it simple and effective:
• Set up clearly using 2 to 4 Layer 1 Set-up cues.
These cues should put people into the shape
of the pose, explaining simple alignment and
breathing. Think of “which body part are we
moving in which direction”. This helps people
feel confident and comfortable.
• Teach any necessary Layer 2 options then
pause to look around at your members.
• Layer 3 cues are often a response to what
we see. Refer to the Technique Manual and
choreography notes for a wide variety of
these. You might need to add another breath
cue, coach deeper into the feel of the pose,
motivate, connect, explain a benefit of the
pose, or just be SILENT.
This is SBS
S Set it up, B Breathe it up, S Silence it up!
Our silence allows us to stay more
IN THE MOMENT.
Don’t Waste Words
People will naturally follow our movement; so
choose follow-up cues that describe the feel or
detail of the poses that they cannot see eg “Arms
light and long” gives length to a move, rather
than “Take your arms out to the side”, which they
can see. “Big toes and heels together” gives
technical detail rather than “Feet together”.
Question Yourself
Ask yourself, “What do I want my class members
to experience in each pose of this track?”
Using your own class-focused objectives will
give you a powerful sense of purpose and allow
your love of Bodybalance to shine through! This
will make your members feel more included
in the experience and, by planning objectives
before each class and teaching the full variety
and flexibility of them, you will keep it fresh and
interesting.
And if you want to further develop your expertise,
revise and relearn your Program Manual and your
filming footage. Try a Yoga, Tai Chi or Pilates class
taught by an expert (remember, we do modify
some exercises to safely fit into a Group-Fitness
setting). There are also some excellent texts,
videos and music available, such as:
Books:
Moving Towards Balance, Rodney Yee with
Nina Zolotow (Rodale)
Journey Into Power, Baron Baptiste (Simon and
Schuster)
Dynamic Yoga, Kia Meaux (Dorling Kindersley Ltd)
Awakening the Spine, Vanda Scaravelli (Harper
Collins)
Videos/DVDs:
Power Tai Chi, Master Jerry Alan Johnson
(Goldhill Videos)
Yoga Journals, Yoga Step by Step, Natasha
Rizopoulos (Natural Instincts)
Tai Chi for Health, Terence Dunn (Healing Arts)

THE HISTORY OF BOXING
Boxing is a combat sport where two participants,
generally of similar weight, fight each other with
only their fists. Boxing is supervised by a referee
and is typically performed inside a ring with
rounds lasting 1 to 3 minutes. There are three
ways to win:
• Victory is achieved if the opponent is knocked
down and unable to get up before the referee
counts to 10 seconds; this is called a knockout
or KO.
• If the opponent is deemed too injured to
continue, this is called a technical knockout or
TKO.
• If there is no stoppage of the fight before
an agreed number of rounds, a winner is
determined either by the referee’s decision or
by judges’ scorecards.
There are four basic punches in Boxing: Jab,
Straight Right/Cross, Hook and Uppercut.
THE HISTORY OF KARATE
Karate is a Martial Art that is centuries old and
essentially Japanese. The translation of ‘kara’ is
open and the translation of ‘te’ is hand. So Karate
means ‘empty hand’. Karate training is commonly
divided into three sections:
• Kihon (the basics or fundamentals)
• KATA (forms)
• Kumite (sparring)
THE HISTORY OF MUAY THAI
Muay Thai is referred to as ‘The Art of Eight
Limbs’, as the hands, shins, elbows and knees
are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner
of Muay Thai (Nak Muay) thus has the ability to
execute strikes using eight ‘points of contact’, as
opposed to ‘two points’ (fists) in Western Boxing
and ‘four points’ (fists, feet).
Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand

THE HISTORY OF KUNG FU
Kung Fu consists of a number of fighting styles
that were developed over many centuries.
Essentially this is a Chinese Martial Art, practiced
by Shaolin monks. Those fighting styles are
identified as ‘families’ or schools. Examples of
these styles are physical exercises that mimic
movements from animals.
There are five animal forms:

the moves are easy to learn. Every track will have
you moving quickly into the intensity and fun
