    KEY COACHING FOCUS
    Brace abs to keep hips square to the floor
    LAYER 1
    • Knees in line with hips
    • Elbows under shoulders
    • Back long and straight
    • Brace abs to stabilize your body
    • Hips and shoulders stay square to the floor
    (as leg moves in and out)
    • Move leg to the side 2 times, hold on the third
    • Slide the leg on the way in
    LAYER 2
    • Feel what’s happening to your abdominals
    every time you move your leg – tune into that
    feeling
    • You can take the leg as wide as you want to, as
    long as you can maintain your hips in a strong,
    still position
    LEVELS
    ò To decrease intensity, Hover on knees
    ò To decrease intensity, drop to a single knee
    WHY
    Our core eliminates unwanted movement in the
    spine, keeping us strong and preventing injury.
    Keeping the hips and shoulders square to floor as
    we move our arms and legs in Planks and Hovers
    is a great way to train this mechanism.
    COACHING
    There are two feature moves:
  2. Lateral Walking Plank with a Spider Plank with
    Toe Tap Sequence
  3. Plate Extension & Crunch Sequence
    When performing the Extended Crunch sequence
    be very clear in setting up targets. Legs extend
    to 45 degrees or just below and the option is to
    bend knee and toe-tap.
    For the Walking Plank sequence, coach same arm/
    same leg as you travel to the side; this ensures
    greater success in reducing bounce and creating
    stability as you move. The option for this move is
    to hold the Plank on the spot, on knees or toes,
    and then to join in on the Spider Plank sequence.
    The moves are tough but fun, so bring out your
    enjoyment and love of what you are doing!
