Soca Soca Give Me Socaaaaaahh – Track 1 and,
OMG, this is the song the selectors play, EV-ER-Y
DAY! OK, these are the lyrics of the song, but it’s
meta AF ’cause it really is that song!
BODYJAM 92 is packed full of Hip Hop, huge
huge huge drops with beautiful sideways to take
you everywhere, starting with this amazing new
Track 1, Big Bad Soca.
We get heavy for Isolations (ummm… don’t we
always?) then welcome to Groovy Soca – the
queen of Bacchanal brings us the bestest and
latest Track 3 of all time.
Then, just think of the best music in the world,
and welcome to Hip Hop. Drops galore with
Paise, all the old-school you know (“now, I just
wanna love you!”) before the best of 2019 hits
with Hot Girl Summer (bummer coming next
round), Bounce Back, into Truffle Butter… whoop
whoop yikes!
Bring the heart rate down with full SASS, before
the second half is gonna challenge your cardio
with strong powerful arm-lines into silky smooth
motions, like having an arm wrestle with a
stingray. My favorite is Death & Desire – that
melody is just sublime – before the all-star takes
us home with Retrograde, and you are gonna love
every inch of it in your earholes. (That was super
funny and clever until I realized that Smashmouth
sings All Star, and not Sublime… Sorry, getting
my 90s’ Ska bands backwards…).
Finish the class with How Do You Sleep –
gorgeous vocals and sensual styles. Sounds like
BODYJAM to me.
Many of the older BODYJAM blocks have a
considerably higher complexity level that will be
out of reach for many new members in your class.
If you teach the more complex routines from
past releases, you will inevitably alienate new
participants, and they will be unlikely to come
back.
For example, blocks to avoid:
BODYJAM 37 Jazz Rock
BODYJAM 38 Latin Block
BODYJAM 39 Dance 4 Life
BODYJAM 40 Jive & Swing, Krump Club
BODYJAM 43 Disco Cardio
BODYJAM 46 Tribal Explosion
BODYJAM 49 Street Jazz
If you have a more advanced audience who you
have taught these routines to over many years,
then maybe you can pull out one of these blocks
once every six months. But if, like me, you have
a bunch of new people in each class you teach,
then I strongly suggest you avoid these blocks
with higher complexity.
However, there are some incredible older tracks,
full of magic and simple, pure dance feel:
BODYJAM 41 La Bomba, BODYJAM 33 Hey
Mama, BODYJAM 42 Jam De Podium, and who
could forget the Battle from BODYJAM 32!
Pick and choose your tracks carefully and you will
have the floor on fire every week.

TEACHING TIPS
Welcome to LES MILLS BARRE Release 10.
This release is about “all the feels” – activating
muscles to feel the burn of strength and cardio
training in our bodies, as well as letting go in the
music and the moment to feel the freedom and
joy of Ballet-inspired movement. Participants
will come back to our classes when they feel
autonomy or control over their own workout,
when they feel competent and confident that
they’re nailing it, and when they feel connected to
us and each other. We can give them autonomy
by offering lots of options – and celebrating
them for choosing whatever level feels best for
them (remember to DO those low options with
them too!). We can give participants a sense of
competence and confidence by focusing our
coaching less on ‘teaching Ballet’ and more on
what, where, and how we feel the workout in
our bodies. Instead of leaving intimidated or
discouraged by how they look as they tackle
these challenging Ballet-inspired moves, they will
leave motivated by their success in feeling their
muscles ‘burn’ and by the beautiful feeling of
freely enjoying the movement and music without
expectations. We can create an amazing feeling
of connection when we tune into how our bodies
and hearts feel, make ourselves aware of how our
participants are feeling, and become vulnerable
enough to share “all the feels” of LES MILLS
BARRE 10 with them
In this track, script clear and inviting Layer 1
cues to get your participants moving safely and
effectively and make them feel welcome in class.
State the name of the move, then work from
the floor up to help them set good Foundation
Posture. Follow up with just a couple of simple
Layer 2 cues that confirm where your participants
will be feeling the work in their bodies. As you
script, focus on using inclusive language that
invites everyone to join together in the movement
and experience – and leave some space for the
music to share its warmth and joy too!
How can you tap into the way your body feels
and what you hear in the music to deliver some
authentic Layer 3 moments in this track?
