03. GO HARD OR GO HOME 4:58mins
TECHNIQUE AND COACHING
1 CHEST PRESS / BENCH PUSHUP
LAYER 1
Coach your class into the Position set-up for
Chest Press to lift well. Use NETT to coach
Targets and Timing so participants are moving
well with Execution and they can follow the
timing successfully. Clearly coach timing of the
combination for the Pushups as well as options
early to ensure success.
CHEST PRESS
• Hands wide on the bar
• Feet hip-width apart, close to bench
• Bar over shoulders
• Shoulders away from the ears
• Target – middle of the chest
• Brace abs, lower back towards the bench
• Draw the ribs down to create a great lifting
position under the bar
• Elbows directly under the wrists – then your
hands are wide enough
• Elbows top of the bench for range
• Transition coming – bars down
• Back of the bench for Pushups
BENCH PUSHUP
• Hands wide
• On knees or toes
• Chest to elbow level for range
• Two fast and one controlled
• Core stays engaged
• Back long and strong
• Great form will amplify our results
2 CHEST PRESS / BENCH PUSHUP
LAYER 2
The second block is a mix of Chest Press,
Pushups then back to Chest Press. Continue to
coach Execution for the Bench Press, helping
participants create a strong foundation under the
barbell for intensity. Once you have everyone
moving well, help them to get more out of the
Chest Press by using Layer 2 cues that explain
how to improve Execution to build more tension
and intensity

THE HISTORY OF BOXING
Boxing is a combat sport where two participants,
generally of similar weight, fight each other with
only their fists. Boxing is supervised by a referee
and is typically performed inside a ring with
rounds lasting 1 to 3 minutes. There are three
ways to win:
• Victory is achieved if the opponent is knocked
down and unable to get up before the referee
counts to 10 seconds; this is called a knockout
or KO.
• If the opponent is deemed too injured to
continue, this is called a technical knockout or
TKO.
• If there is no stoppage of the fight before
an agreed number of rounds, a winner is
determined either by the referee’s decision or
by judges’ scorecards.
There are four basic punches in Boxing: Jab,
Straight Right/Cross, Hook and Uppercut.
THE HISTORY OF KARATE
Karate is a Martial Art that is centuries old and
essentially Japanese. The translation of ‘kara’ is
open and the translation of ‘te’ is hand. So Karate
means ‘empty hand’. Karate training is commonly
divided into three sections:
• Kihon (the basics or fundamentals)
• KATA (forms)
• Kumite (sparring)
THE HISTORY OF MUAY THAI
Muay Thai is referred to as ‘The Art of Eight
Limbs’, as the hands, shins, elbows and knees
are all used extensively in this art. A practitioner
of Muay Thai (Nak Muay) thus has the ability to
execute strikes using eight ‘points of contact’, as
opposed to ‘two points’ (fists) in Western Boxing
and ‘four points’ (fists, feet).
Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand.

THE HISTORY OF KUNG FU
Kung Fu consists of a number of fighting styles
that were developed over many centuries.
Essentially this is a Chinese Martial Art, practiced
by Shaolin monks. Those fighting styles are
identified as ‘families’ or schools. Examples of
these styles are physical exercises that mimic
movements from animals.
There are five animal forms:
• The Dragon
• The Snake
• The Tiger
• The Crane
• The Leopard or Panther
THE HISTORY OF TAE KWON DO
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art. The word
‘tae’ means ‘to strike or break with foot’; ‘kwon’
means ‘to strike or break with fist’; and ‘do’ means
‘way’, ‘method’, or ‘art’. So, ‘Tae Kwon Do’ may
be loosely translated as ‘the way of the foot and
fist’ or ‘the way of kicking and punching’.
Tae Kwon Do is a flamboyant Martial Art that is
agile, fast and precise; it is 90% feet and only 10%
hands

6 Keys to unlocking the Mind-Body
Experience:
Stay in a Balance Frame of Mind
This means coming to class with a positive,
respectful attitude. Acknowledge that your
participants are on individual journeys and your
class will gain a more authentic mind-body feel.
Don’t Pose
That super calm, faux-spiritual voice comes across
as inauthentic and ill-fitting. Your class is an adult
space so respect your participants enough to
teach in your own voice, just keep it calm.
Keep Cues Simple
Although Yoga poses are often technically
complex, your class will not hear you if you ‘talk
their ears off’ with too much cueing. Use the
three-part process to keep it simple and effective:
• Set up clearly using 2 to 4 Layer 1 Set-up cues.
These cues should put people into the shape
of the pose, explaining simple alignment and
breathing. Think of “which body part are we
moving in which direction”. This helps people
feel confident and comfortable.
• Teach any necessary Layer 2 options then
pause to look around at your members.
• Layer 3 cues are often a response to what
we see. Refer to the Technique Manual and
choreography notes for a wide variety of
these. You might need to add another breath
cue, coach deeper into the feel of the pose,
motivate, connect, explain a benefit of the
pose, or just be SILENT.
This is SBS
S Set it up, B Breathe it up, S Silence it up!
Our silence allows us to stay more
IN THE MOMENT.
Don’t Waste Words
People will naturally follow our movement; so
choose follow-up cues that describe the feel or
detail of the poses that they cannot see eg “Arms
light and long” gives length to a move, rather
than “Take your arms out to the side”, which they
can see. “Big toes and heels together” gives
technical detail rather than “Feet together”.
Question Yourself
Ask yourself, “What do I want my class members
to experience in each pose of this track?”
Using your own class-focused objectives will
give you a powerful sense of purpose and allow
your love of Bodyflow to shine through! This
will make your members feel more included
in the experience and, by planning objectives
before each class and teaching the full variety
and flexibility of them, you will keep it fresh and
interesting.
And if you want to further develop your expertise,
revise and relearn your Program Manual and your
filming footage. Try a Yoga, Tai Chi or Pilates class
taught by an expert (remember, we do modify
some exercises to safely fit into a Group-Fitness
setting). There are also some excellent texts,
videos and music available, such as:

High-energy fun and athleticism – that’s what
makes this release an awesome experience.
This release is going to challenge your most
athletic participants so be sure to provide all
the variations to keep everyone moving and
having fun. Start thinking about your favourite
Motivational cues because you are going to need
them in certain tracks.
The Warm-up track is a great opportunity to
get the class moving but also to create a strong
connection based on smiles and fun – be free
and let loose. In Track 2: Mixed Impact, show a
contrast to the fun we had in the Warm-up with a
mix of athletic movements. Then in the Aerobic
Track, turn up the silliness with an old favourite
– the Pivot Turn. The Plyometric Track, Drop
That Low is a powerful song that pushes your
participants to train fast and reactive in the Lunge
and Drop squat Combos – your legs are going
to burn in this track. We kept the choreography
simple so that you can focus on Coaching and
Motivating your class.
After the first peak, tell your class that they’ve
Gotta Keep Movin for the Athletic Strength Track.
They will need you to treat them like a client,
pushing them through a tough set of strength
training. In the Running Track, show your passion
for community and Group Fitness. For the
Interval Track, let That Feeling push you and your
participants to feel rejuvenated and alive. The
final peak is the Power track; Ecuador is a great
song to wrap up the class with. Bring excitement
and a challenge to this last track.
Have an amazing time with this release. Thank
you for sharing the #bodyattacklove. You are the
reason for our success. My love and energy to you
all.

When it comes to mixing up past releases, please
try to teach most tracks from the past 10 releases.
BODYATTACK now has a strong focus on sport
and fitness training, and we want your classes to
reflect the new training concepts and movement
styles. This program is no longer ‘old school’
aerobics – so bear this in mind when making your
track selection.

Note: If you have time, use the Cooldown track
to take your class through some stretches.
The EXPRESS version of Track 5 Gotta Keep
Movin’ is to be used for the 30-minute format
only. Please use the full version for the 45- and
55-minute classes.
Rock This Release! The coaching notes have
been updated to reflect the 3 Layers of Coaching
with more clarity. Each block of work now clearly
states which layers you should be focusing
on – making it even easier for you to coach
BODYATTACK!
