TEACHING TIPS
Welcome to LES MILLS BARRE 22! This track
progresses from a block in 1st Position, to a block
in 2nd Position, finishing with a block in Derrière.
The focus is on strong Foundation Posture with
core and glute activation across all three blocks.
In the Plié blocks, your body is moving straight up
and straight down.
When the body is in Derrière extensions, weight
placement needs to be shifted. Your body must
adjust forward to accommodate the working
leg behind. This shift lengthens the spine on
an upward diagonal plane – still maintaining
Foundation Posture.
When you are coaching, emphasize where
participants should feel the work in their body
across these different alignments. Remember
to use simple and inviting coaching to get them
moving and ready for the workout. Simplify your
instructions to allow participants to enjoy the
music and notice how their body feels that day.
There is time to deepen into more detailed
coaching as the workout progresses. Use the
space within the choreography to let participants
breathe and focus on their mind-body connection.
Remember that silence is often an underutilized
resource in our instructor toolkit, one that can
help participants digest the movements and the
cues you have spoken. Find pockets of intentional
silence as you prepare to teach this track.
